Recommended Read: Drive by Daniel Pink

I’m Currently reading the book DRIVE by Daniel Pink, author of A Whole New Mind! — This book is great. Have you ever wondered why you may not be motivated to walk through walls for a reward like money or material things (dont get me wrong – money and things are nice, but that may not be why you would overcome the big obstacles to have what you want) This book does a great job of presenting evidence as to why us ‘Humans’ aren’t just motivated by stuff and where our drive to succeed comes from.

Let me put it a different way…if you could have that 1 pill to losing weight would you take it. Well the truth is that there is just 1 pill that will do that for you…it is the ‘Work’ pill. You have to work on your body to get your body to change (eating healthy, thinking healthy and exercise). You have to work to get what you want in any of your categories (your Health, Wealth and relationships)…there is no way around that…you cant skip steps in the process.

So the real question is do you know what will motivate you to do the work everyday? Maybe it is time to find out….that is why I reccomend everyone read Drive!

“Most of us believe that the best way to motivate ourselves and others is with external rewards like money—the carrot-and-stick approach. That’s a mistake, Daniel H. Pink says in, Drive: The Surprising Truth About What Motivates Us, his provocative and persuasive new book. The secret to high performance and satisfaction—at work, at school, and at home—is the deeply human need to direct our own lives, to learn and create new things, and to do better by ourselves and our world.” – Quote from about the book.</em
