As a speaker have you ever lost the audience?  Have you been in a situation that you were unable to connect or get the audience on your side? When you look back and reflect on those situations, most of the times we can now see the cues and clues that your audience, whether big or small, were not connecting to you.  Here are 7 points that will help you deliver a powerful presentation and better connect to your audience.

  1. Show Gratitude. If you ask the audience to speak to each other on a certain question or topic, when you call them back to attention, add “thank your partner.” Each time you ask the audience or someone in the audience a question and they respond, say “Thank you.”

6. Handle Miss-understood words. Even though Dr. Mehrabian shared that words are 7% of communication it is important to recognize that a word can trigger an emotional response.  Be sure to Stabilize your words. Check for understanding and stabilize any words or phrases that send your audience into a tail spin.
